Eight Mile Plains State School offers quality programs across 8 Key Learning Areas – English, Mathematics, Technology, Studies of Society and Environment, Science, Health and Physical Education, The Arts and Languages Other than English (L.O.T.E.).
Curriculum at Eight Mile Plains focuses on developing students’ Literacy and Numeracy skills across the school. Teachers organize learning and teaching each day utilizing a Literacy Block emphasising English and Literacy processes and skills as outlined in the School English Program; a Mathematics Block for developing sequential concepts, processes and skills stated in the School Mathematics Program; and an Integrated Studies Block where units of work are drawn from several of the other Key Learning Area Syllabi documents.
Visiting Specialist Teachers in P.E., Music, Instrumental and L.O.T.E. provide instruction in their specified subject areas each week.
Chinese is the L.O.T.E. studied for Years 4-7. A Teacher-Librarian visits twice a week, working closely with teachers to implement English and Literacy Programs.
Learning support is provided by a Learning Support Teacher 3 days per fortnight. Literacy and Numeracy Intervention Programs operate throughout the school assisting students needing extra support. A Guidance Officer and a Speech Pathologist provide support in addition to Advisory Visiting Teachers.
The students participate in interschool sports such as netball, soccer, T-Ball and cricket and some achieve representative honours.
The school has an Instrumental Music Band. Some students are selected for the local Combined Schools Band – Rhapsody 4.
Years 4 to 7 have an annual school camp.
Prep to year 3 participate in a swimming program.
