The Chaplaincy service at Eight Mile Plains State School is a recipient of NSCP funding from the Federal Government. It is a voluntary service that seeks to offer support to the students in a variety of ways. It is the goal of this Chaplaincy service to help students to reach high school healthy and having had a positive primary school experience. This service is not just here for students but we would encourage families related to the school to talk to the Chaplain if they feel that they have a need that we may be able to help with (there are a wide variety of agencies that use Chaplains as a way of connecting with people who are in need).
My name is Piers Kwan and I am the Chaplain here at Eight Mile Plains State School. I am 22 years old, currently studying a Bachelor of Theology and am looking to do a Diploma of Youth Work and a Graduate Diploma in Primary Teaching over the next couple of years. I am passionate about my God, my family, Liverpool football club and sport in general. I am thrilled to be here at Eight Mile Plains State School as it is an extremely positive environment with great teaching and support staff, great kids and great families.
Some new developments for this term are that on Friday, August 29 at 8 am we will be beginning a breakfast club so that students can come a little bit early, build community connections, play some games and share a good breakfast before they begin their school day. Some goals for the future are to kick off a mentoring program, as well as some initiatives to improve kids self-image, resilience and social skills.
As I said above this service is partially funded by the Federal Government, but this service cannot survive without the support of interested community members, if you are interested in helping in any way, be that financial, volunteering or simply by knowing a little bit more about us so that you can spread the word, then please contact the school office on 33406333 and ask to speak to the Chaplain. If I am not in then I will endeavour to contact you as soon as possible.
